  • Kenny Omiya has been named executive chef of the Hilton Waikoloa Village after longtime executive chef Wilhelm "Willy" Pirngruber's promotion to director of food and beverage. Omiya is an Islander born and raised who worked on O'ahu and Maui before moving to the Big Island in 1988. He oversees a kitchen that produces 5,000 meals a day and works with chefs from all of the resort's 10 restaurants and banquet facilities.

  • Auntie Pasto's has restored the signature wall-mounted menu boards that had been taken down during the restaurant's 20th anniversary events. New chef Renny Kamark has put a new menu in place, and owner Ed Wary is overseeing the launch of a new Auntie Pasto's in Kunia, scheduled to open in October.

Is your passport up to date? No matter. They'll give you a new one when you check in at the Koko Marina International Festival, 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Koko Marina Center. Passport to the World is a tasting event featuring foods inspired by different countries, priced at $3 to $7 per plate. And there'll be a beer and wine garden, too.

When guests arrive, they'll receive passports which, when they've had them stamped at eating places and attractions, will be their entry into a drawing for a Neighbor Island trip. Gondola-style boat rides will be offered on the canal ($2). And there'll be a silent auction, "souvenir" sales and entertainment. Proceeds benefit Friends of Hanauma Bay's efforts to preserve the marine sanctuary. See www.Kokomarinacenter.com.
