ABBEVILLE, La. — The final of the 13- to 15-year-old Babe Ruth World Series is not the place to have your first bad game.

But that is what happened to O'ahu yesterday in the World Series.

O'ahu came into the final with a 5-0 record and had pretty much manhandled the competition.

O'ahu had committed a total of six errors throughout the World Series. But on this day, O'ahu nearly equaled that total en route to a 13-3 loss to Jefferson Parish East from Metairie, La.

In the game, O'ahu committed five errors, which led to five Louisiana runs.

O'ahu manager Eric Kadooka made no excuse for his team's performance.

"The better team today beat us," Kadooka said. "They came out and made the plays. We tip our hats. We did not play good enough to win today."

Kadooka said his team made a lot of errors because Louisiana put added pressure on his team.

O'ahu entered the finals as the only team that had not lost a game. It outscored its five opponents 44-12 in 35 innings. The team had two shutout victories and had not given up more than four runs in a game. In the postseason this summer, O'ahu was 9-0 prior to the loss.

"We were ready to play," Kadooka said. "It had nothing to do with not being ready. They just beat us."

O'ahu's troubles began early.

Louisiana's first batter reached first base on an O'ahu error. That error would lead to the first run of the game. When the first inning was over, O'ahu was down 1-0 and had committed two errors.

O'ahu got back in the game in the bottom of the third inning. Landen Taga ripped a single to left field. He moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Geoffrey Kunita. Taga scored on Joshua Bninski's single which tied it 1-1 after three innings.

But Louisiana did not let O'ahu stay in the game for long. It scored 11 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning for a 12-1 lead.

Reece Kiriu took the loss for O'ahu. He started the game and went four innings and gave up three earned runs. Harrison Ishida, Evan Lim, and Evan Yamamoto also pitched.

Kadooka said the loss will make his team a lot stronger for the future.

"Baseball does not mean you are going to be a winner," Kadooka said. "You are going to have to learn how to lose before you can win in order to have success. We have had tremendous success."

Matthew Suiter had two hits and two RBIs to pace O'ahu.

Despite finishing second, O'ahu placed four on the All-World Series Team. The players are Suiter (outfield), Ishida (third base), Bninski (shortstop), and Zachary Kometani (catcher).

Yamamoto of O'ahu landed on the All-Defensive team.
