TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Monk," 10 p.m., USA Network. Each season, this smart detective show has two short spurts of new episodes, sandwiched by reruns. Tonight, the summer spurt ends with Monk — the obsessive-compulsive detective — meeting the woman he loved in his teens. That brings flashbacks and fresh angst.

OF NOTE

"Biography," 5 p.m., A&E. What happens to the kids who grow up as stars? This documentary ranges from current star Dakota Fanning to long-ago one Ron Howard — now one of Hollywood's best directors.

"Lilo & Stitch: The Series," 8:30 p.m., Disney Channel. Kim Possible, the crime-fighting teenager, makes a guest stop on this series helping Lilo. Indeed, the animated character dominates prime time tonight. Her own "Kim Possible" series is at 8 p.m.; "Kim Possible: A Stick in Time," a witty time-travel movie, is at 9 p.m.

"Reba," 8 p.m., WB. Dolly Parton guests in this rerun, playing a flashy real estate agent who hires Reba.

"Crossing Jordan," 9 p.m., NBC. Someone is shot and killed in the morgue's reception area. Jordan suspects this wasn't random.

"One Night Stand," 9 p.m., HBO. Earthquake, the comedian, starts slowly, then has some moments that are off-center, politically incorrect and (to many people) hilarious. He brings a fresh racial slant to many issues, including siding with the attacking tiger in the Siegfried-and-Roy act. Tigers, he says, are brought from Africa, torn from their roots and put to work for food and water. "Is this starting to sound familiar?"

"Splash' (1984), 9 p.m., Lifetime. Ron Howard made his name as a film director — and forever insured his much-beloved acting gigs as Opie Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show" and Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" would be mere career sidenotes — with this romantic fantasy about an average guy New Yorker (Tom Hanks) who falls in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah). The film also proved former sitcom star Hanks's mettle as a leading man in feature films, won former model Hannah raves for her acting, and featured wickedly funny supporting turns by Second City alumni Eugene Levy and the late John Candy.
