McLachlin tumbles to 54th in PGA Q-School

Hawai'i's Parker McLachlin scrambled to a 1-over-par 73 yesterday and fell into a 19-way tie for 54th place after two rounds of the PGA Q-School at Winter Garden, Fla.
McLachlin, a Punahou School graduate, played the Panther Lake Course at Orange County National. He has a 36-hole total of 1-under 143.
Michael Allen fired a 4-under 68 at the Crooked Cat Course to open a six-stroke lead with a 132 total. Five golfers are at 138, with another six at 139.
Former Hawai'i resident Keoke Cotner shot 72—146 and is tied for 105th place.
The top 30 finishers and ties after six rounds earn PGA playing cards. The next 50 receive full exemptions on the Nationwide Tour.

GRIFFIN GUIDES UHH
Justin Griffin had 18 points and eight rebounds as visiting Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Incarnate Word last night in a non-conference game at San Antonio, Texas.
Rockey Jorgensen added 12 points, Terrance Troupe contributed 10 points and Justin Dobson had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Vulcans (4-2).
Antario Williams and Paul Connolly each had 12 points for Incarnate Word (1-3).
Earlier, Griffin was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Griffin averaged 22 points during the three-game Hilo Shootout and was selected to the all-tournament team. He shot 22 of 39, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range, and sank 16 of 17 free-throw attempts as the Vulcans finished second in the tournament with a 2-1 record.
SEATTLE DEFEATS HPU
Bernard Seals scored 21 points as unbeaten Seattle spanked visiting Hawai'i Pacific, 90-70, last night in a non-conference game.
Ryan Webb added 12 points and seven assists for Seattle (5-0).
Adam Reinking led HPU (0-3) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Finis Harwell added 12 points and Adam Snyder 10.
CORRECTION
BROADUS WAS PICTURED
The misidentified picture that ran in Wednesday's Homegrown Report was that of Rashaun Broadus, a former Mililani star basketball player.
Broadus is now a starting point guard at Brigham Young in Provo. He had nine assists and seven points in the Cougars' 97-74 victory over Lamar Wednesday night.
Broadus is averaging 8.3 points and a team-best 5.0 assists per game for BYU (3-1).
PREP FOOTBALL
LUNAS' STAR COMMITS
Lahainaluna defensive lineman Peni Fiuangaihetau has verbally committed to play football at Weber State, Lunas athletic director Joe Balangitao said.
Fiuangaihetau is 6 feet 1 and 250 pounds and occasionally played fullback for the Lunas.
The defensive line coach at Weber State is Baldwin graduate and former Bears coach Chad Kauha'aha'a, who left after last season to take his present position.
Fiuangaihetau was a Maui Interscholastic League all-star as a junior. This year's MIL all-stars have yet to be determined.
LPGA GOLF
JAPAN STARS PLAY HERE
Japan LPGA players Sakura Yokomine and Shiho Oyama will play in the Fields Open, a tournament newly added to the 2006 U.S. LPGA Tour, organizers announced earlier this week.
The Fields Open will be held Feb. 23 to 25 at Ko Olina Golf Club.
Yokomine and Oyama both finished in the top five on this year's JLPGA money list. They received sponsors' exemptions, along with fellow Japan players Kasumi Fujii and Hiromi Mogi.
