Carroll, Rau win pro golf tourney

Advertiser Staff

David Rau and Scott Carroll, representing the Kapalua Golf Club, captured the $16,000 Aloha Section PGA E-Z-GO/Golf Concepts Head Pro-Assistant Pro Championship yesterday at the Hualalai Golf Club on the Big Island.

Rau and Carroll won a playoff against Ko Olina's Kevin Carll and Tommy Hines and Oahu Country Club's Andrew Feldmann and Aaron Benedetti after the three teams finished regulation play at 9-under 135.

Carll and Hines were eliminated on the first extra hole. After the tying on the second playoff hole, Carroll clinched the title with a birdie on the third extra hole — the par-3, 219-yard 11th.

Carll and another Ko Olina partner, Travis Joerger, tied for second at 136 with Kapalua's Marty Keiter and Patrick Clary.

Thirty-seven teams, which includes 58 Hawai'i professionals, competed in the 36-hole, four-ball, stroke-play event.
