Kaiser JROTC sale to be Nov. 12

Kaiser High School Junior ROTC program will hold its annual White Elephant Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12 at the school's cafeteria.
Proceeds are used to sustain a program that benefits cadets and builds upon leadership qualities and patriotism. The program also is seeking donations of household goods, books, office supplies and games to be sold at the sale. For more information, or to make a donation, call 394-1228.
HONOLULU
SAT PROGRAM AT KAIMUKI LIBRARY
Kaplan Test Preparation will host a free program for high schoolers on "101 Test Secrets: Demystifying the SAT" at the Kaimuki Public Library on Tuesday.
The one-hour program begins at 6 p.m. and will cover the importance of the SAT in college admissions and share score-raising strategies and tips for test day success.
Teens aged 14 to 18 and their parents are invited to attend.

UH DEPARTMENT PLANS OPEN HOUSE
The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Physics and Astronomy Department will hold an open house on Nov. 19 at Watanabe Hall and Krauss Annex on the Manoa campus.
The event will feature physics research and application presentations by UH faculty and students. Activities begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics Auditorium and will be followed by a group visit to 10 sites until 11 a.m. The public is welcomed to visit the site informally from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

O'AHU ID OFFICE TO BE CLOSED
The State Identification Office on O'ahu will be closed Monday and Tuesday for renovations.
The other offices on Hilo, Kona, Maui and Kaua'i will be open as usual. Because of the inconvenience to the public, the Honolulu office will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 3.

RECYCLING DRIVE AT ROOSEVELT
Roosevelt High School's Music Department will have a can and bottle recycling drive as a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in front of the school on Nehoa Street.
Proceeds will support student activities and help offset the music program's operating costs.
Another recycling drive is scheduled for Dec. 4. For more information call 587-4600, Ext. 305.

MA'ILI SCHOOL RECEIVES GRANT
Ma'ili Bible Church and School has received a $20,000 grant from the Castle Foundation and the Castle Memorial Fund.
The money will be used to repair the school's roof.

'EWA-BOUND H-1 LANES CLOSED
Two 'ewa-bound lanes of the H-1 Freeway between 'Aiea and Pearl City will be closed from 10 p.m. today to 4 a.m. tomorrow for concrete pouring.
During this time, residents near the H-1 Waimalu viaduct widening project may experience noise generated by heavy machinery.
Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.

OLA PONO AWARD NOMINEES SOUGHT
Nominations are being accepted for the ninth annual Ola Pono Awards honoring unsung heroes from across the state who are working to make Hawai'i safe, healthy and drug-free.
Winners will be honored at a special recognition luncheon in February in celebration of Drug-Free Hawai'i Awareness Month. They will receive $1,000 to be donated to a charitable organization of their choice.
