CU triumphs, HPU loses

Hawai'i Division II basketball teams split on the road last night.
Zack Whiting had 28 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as Chaminade defeated Chico State, 81-67, in Chico, Calif., while Ryan Diggs scored 29 points as Western Washington beat Hawai'i Pacific, 105-80, in Bellingham, Wash.
Whiting hit 9 of 15 shots from the field and 9 of 13 free throws as he made a triumphant return to his hometown, where he led Pleasant Valley High to consecutive section titles.
Chris Nelson (14), Corey Campbell (12) and Stewart Kussler (12) also scored in double figures for the Silverswords (1-3), who surged to a 17-0 lead before Andy Bocian scored for Chico State (1-4) at the 11:53 mark.
Bocian led the Wildcats with 18 points and six rebounds.
Grant Dykstra added 28 points, hitting 10 of 10 free throws, and seven assists as Western Washington improved to 4-1.
Donnell Dobbins and Audrias Peciukas each scored 17 points for Hawai'i Pacific, which fell to 0-2. Peciukas added 10 rebounds and Rick Wilson 10 points for the Sea Warriors.
