Advertiser Staff
A male bicyclist was killed yesterday morning during a hit-and-run incident on North Nimitz Highway in Iwilei.
Police said the bicyclist was traveling west, possibly in the bike lane, when he was struck from behind at about 1:55 a.m. by a vehicle that then left the scene of the accident, about 600 feet west of Pacific Street.
Based on a mirror that was recovered at the scene, police believe the cyclist was hit by a truck, van or multi-purpose vehicle.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call traffic investigators at 529-3499.
The injured man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and died later of multiple injuries, police said.

SUSPECT SOUGHT IN ASSAULT OF COUPLE
Police arrested a 31-year-old man for suspicion of attempted murder and third-degree assault and were searching for a second man following an incident late Saturday night between a motorist, his passenger and two pedestrians.
The pedestrians, a 45-year-old man and his wife, 42, were crossing the intersection of Mahukona Street and Kapi'olani Boulevard about 10:40 p.m. Saturday when words were exchanged, police said.
They said the couple continued through the intersection and were walking on the sidewalk along Kapi'olani when they were approached by the vehicle's passenger. The passenger punched the male pedestrian in the face several times, and the man who had been driving the car appeared and tried to break up the fight, police said.
As the two men who had been in the car were walking away, the driver punched the woman pedestrian, and the suspected assailants left the area, police said.
The driver later turned himself in to police and was arrested.
