The United States won 10 of 12 singles matches to beat Europe, 16-8, yesterday to win back the PING Junior Solheim Cup at The Bridgewater Club in Westfield, Ind.
Pahoa's Kimberly Kim, the youngest player on the U.S. team, lost her singles match to Carlota Ciganda, 2 and 1.
Kim, a 14-year-old Waiakea High freshman, helped the United States win two points in Tuesday's opening four-ball matches, teaming with Catherina Wang, of Orlando, Fla., and Morgan Pressel, of Boca Raton, Fla., for victories.
After losses by Kim and Sydney Burlison, of Salinas, Calif., in the No. 2 and 3 singles, the Americans won the next matches. Pressel capped the victory with a 6 and 4 rout of Azahara Munoz of Spain in the 12th match.
The Europeans held the Cup after winning the second biennial event in Sweden in 2003. The United States won the inaugural event in 2002 at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins, Minn.
