Traffic is the new weather: Everybody's got something to say about it.

For those who want somebody to listen, officials are planning three meetings this month on the future of transportation on O'ahu.

The meetings, part of the O'ahu Metropolitan Planning Organization's efforts to develop a master plan for transportation in the year 2030, are a chance for residents to get their opinions heard, said OMPO Executive Director Gordon Lum.

OMPO already has collected more than 450 suggestions from experts — those who drive or ride on our roads every day. However, not all of them can be fully financed. That's where the next round of hearings comes in.

"A lack of ideas to address our future transportation needs is not the problem. It's whittling down the list," Lum said.

Officials will use input received at the community meetings to develop a draft plan that can be presented to decision-makers for action, he said.

The meetings are set for Tuesday at McKinley High School; Wednesday at Kapolei Middle School and Thursday at Mililani Mauka Elementary School.
