Former Harris administration city budget director IVAN LUI-KWAN has been elected chairman of the board of directors for St. Andrew's Priory School. His varied career in financial management and administration has included serving as president and chief executive officer of Kona Bay Marine Resources; chairman and chief executive officer of The Queen's Development Corp.; executive vice president and chief operating officer of The Queen's Health Systems, and a partner with the law firm of Carlsmith Ball. His community outreach includes chairmanship of the March of Dimes, Hawai'i Chapter and past chairmanship of Historic Hawai'i Foundation.
Susan Nakamura, an 18-year veteran of the public relations and marketing industry, has been named marketing manager for the Hawai'i Convention Center. She was, most recently, marketing manager-global services and partner marketing, for BroadVision, a Web applications provider in Redwood City, Calif. Before that, she served as senior marketing manager-worldwide services marketing for Oracle, and marketing communications manager-global support center for PeopleSoft.
CHRISTINE McCOLGAN has been named the first chief financial officer for Hardware Hawaii. The appointment and creation of the new position comes at a time when the hardware and lumber chain foresees "dramatic growth." Her career also includes positions at City Mill, Castle & Cooke, Amfac, Inc. and the Rehab Hospital of the Pacific. Hardware Hawaii has stores in Honolulu, Kailua and Kane'ohe, and a lumber distribution center and sales facility under construction in Kapolei.
Hilton Hawai'i has named JON CONCHING as vice president of sales and marketing for its Hawai'i region, which includes Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa, Hilton Waikoloa Village and the Doubletree Alana Waikiki Hotel. Conching began as sales manager with Hilton Hawaiian Village in 1987, and has served as assistant director of sales, director of sales, regional director of sales, and, most recently, vice president. Also, LORA GALLAGHER has been named regional director of marketing, charged with overseeing advertising, promotion, public relations and online marketing for the three Hilton hotels. She began with Hilton in 1994 as advertising manager, and before that, worked in the Department of Tourism in Fiji.
Real estate firm CB Richard Ellis Hawai'i has named BRIAN K. YANO manager of the office tower component of the mixed-use downtown Harbor Court project. He will manage the property's commercial office, retail, restaurant and parking components, as well as common elements of the owners association. Yano is a 22-year veteran of sales, commercial property leasing, and facility management.
AARON A. AKAU has been promoted to vice president and director of landscape architecture at planning, engineering, landscape architecture and environmental consulting firm, Belt Collins Hawaii Ltd. He will oversee day-to-day operations of the landscape department, including staff and projects. Also, ALAN Y. FUJIMORI has rejoined the firm as principal planner and landscape architect. Honolulu-based Belt Collins has offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Guam and Seattle.
Professional resort management executive ROBERT BOYLE has been appointed manager for the 880-acre North Shore Turtle Bay Resort. Boyle has served in executive management positions for hotels and resorts in Kentucky, Vermont and Colorado. Turtle Bay recently completed a $60 million renovation of its 401-room hotel and 42 beachfront cottages.
