Kaiser hosts cross-country

The fifth Honolulu Mara-thon/Kaiser High School Cross Country Invitational, involving all O'ahu Interscholastic Association and Interscholastic League of Honolulu schools, will be held Saturday.
The meet will begin at 9 a.m. at Koko Head Park with girls' intermediate and then boys' intermediate races.
Varsity girls races will begin at 11 a.m., followed by varsity boys at 11:30 a.m.
BASEBALL
SAKATA'S TEAM WINS TITLE
The San Jose Giants, led by manager Lenn Sakata, captured the California League title on Monday with a 3-1 victory over Lake Elsinore at San Jose, Calif.
San Jose, the single-A minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, lost the first two games of the best-of-five championship series at Lake Elsinore before winning the next three games at home.
Before the playoffs, Sakata, a 1971 Kalani High graduate, was named the California League's manager of the year after leading the Giants to the first-round title and the best overall league record.
BOXING
Kawano will coach U.S.
Pearl City's Bruce Kawano will be an assistant coach for the United States Team at the 2005 Women's World Championships to be held Sept. 25 to Oct. 3 at Podolsk, Russia.
Earlier this month, Kawano served as a coach at the U.S. Men's Continental Championships camp.
TENNIS
TRAINING FOR OFFICIALS
A training session for officials and chair umpires will be held at the Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Officials will be trained from 9 a.m. to noon and chair umpires follow from 1 to 3 p.m.
At 4 p.m., a 90-minute training for ballpersons will be offered.

The sessions are in preparation for the international wheelchair event scheduled for CORP Oct. 12 to 16.
