Charity sail kicks off Pride of Hawai'i

Cruise to Nowhere: NCL America will host an overnight fundraising cruise aboard its newest U.S.-flagged cruise ship, Pride of Hawai'i, in support of four local charities. "A Cruise to Nowhere," is part of festivities to welcome the ship's arrival in the Islands and sails directly before the ship's first seven-day cruise in Hawai'i waters. Cruise guests enjoy a cocktail party, a Broadway-style show, a comedy show, massage and facials in the spa, dancing and Galleria shopping. Cabin prices based on double occupancy range from $400 to $2,500. The fundraiser is the fourth charity cruise organized by NCL in the hopes of raising $400,000. Fire-knife dancing: The Polynesian Cultural Center will host the 14th annual World Fireknife Competition May 18-20. More than 40 competitors in adult and junior categories will dance and twirl flaming knives for an audience. The championship round is slated for May 20 at 8 p.m. Information, tickets: polynesia.com.
Vow renewal: Sheraton Moana Surfrider's weekly "Promise Me Again" wedding vow renewal ceremony is to refresh commitment in a beautiful setting. Couples from Hawai'i, the Mainland and abroad gather each Wednesday at 7 p.m. to renew their marriage vows before a pastor and the public in the hotel's Banyan Court. Each spouse receives a fresh flower lei, which they present to each other in place of wedding bands. Following words of inspiration and rededication by the Rev. Jim Hutcherson, the couples recite vows and dance to the Sam Kapu Trio's performance of "I'll Remember You." Couples receive a souvenir certificate. Information: 922-3111.
