Ed Morishima Jr. has joined The Honolulu Advertiser as a recruitment advertising account executive. Morishima has more than 20 years experience in business-to-business sales and sales management, including at Nextel Partners, Arch Wireless, New Horizons Computer Learning Center and Servco Pacific.
The American Lung Association of Hawai'i has named Jean Evans chief operating officer. Evans, who has more than 20 years in health, education and social service management, comes to the lung association from Alu Like Inc., the service organization that works toward social and economic self-sufficiency for Native Hawaiians. Evans has served as director of Alu Like's Ho'okahua Early Childhood Department and administrator of its Pulama I Na Keiki Project. She is also past manager of community and outreach education for Kapi'olani Health, and head of the American Cancer Society's Central/Leeward Unit.
DORRIE M. CHIN, who was with the opening team for Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, has been named assistant director of revenue, overseeing all in-park revenue management. Joining the company in 1999 as catering manager, she was quickly promoted to food and beverage manager for the 29-acre amusement park. Previously, she had served as assistant banquet manager and banquet manager at Dole Ballrooms. Before that, she was catering manager of the "Legends in Concert" show at Aloha Showroom.
Star Markets Ltd. has appointed Bradley Pang as controller. Pang was most recently controller for Seafood Connection, overseeing accounting, internal controls and information technology.
The Gas Co. has promoted Marvin buenconsejo jr. to sales supervisor, overseeing Maui sales activities and personnel. He joined the company as an account executive 12 years ago and was most recently senior account executive. Buenconsejo's extensive hotel management career has including work as executive chef and director of catering and convention services for several major Hawai'i hotel chains. He received the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Hawai'i in 2002.
Also promoted at the Gas Co. is TED ROBINSON, to statewide purchasing and warehouse manager. Robinson has 14 years as a sales and marketing account executive and sales manager. Also, SHARON SHIGEMOTO, former senior account executive, has been promoted to sales supervisor.
The head of the Polynesian Cultural Center has been named president of The Activities and Attractions Association of Hawai'I, an organization of business leaders dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of Hawai'i activities. The executive board of directors includes: VON ORGILL, president and chief executive officer, Polynesian Cultural Center; past A3H president RONALD WILLIAMS, president and chief executive officer of Atlantis Adventures, who will continue to serve as an executive board member; and DAVID CAMPBELL, chief executive officer of Maui's Temptation Tours, who will serve as organization secretary and treasurer. Representatives of the islands are: O'ahu, JOHN MORGAN, president of Kualoa Ranch; Big Island, SCOTTY BELL, owner, Kona's Body Glove Hawai'i Cruises snorkel and whale-watching firm, and GREG VANDERLAAN, chief executive officer of UFO Parasail; and Maui, LISA GIBSON, owner, Warren & Annabelle's Magic Show.
National general contractor and construction manager Kiewit Building Group has named MARY BROWNE its Honolulu safety manager. She will oversee safety aspects in project planning, site inspections, personnel training and resource development. The 24-year veteran of occupational safety in Honolulu is one of fewer than 40 people in Hawai'i to have earned the certified safety professional designation. Browne was safety manager at American Piping & Boiler, and before that, with Army Hawai'i Family Housing. She has served as director of occupational safety at Aloha Airlines, and senior safety administrator at Dick Pacific Construction and Hawaiian Dredging Construction companies. Kiewit, with more than 30 offices in the United States and Canada, opened its Hawai'i office more than 25 years ago.
