Spring is always a vibrant time in the fashion world. In the coming weeks, a bevy of fashion shows will bring the latest styles to stages and runways throughout Honolulu. From ultra-chic Chanel to edgy Urban Nomad, late April and early May offer something for divas of every style, from athletes to philanthropists.
FIT FETISH
Fleet Feet Sports Kailua is hosting its first ladies-only night at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Diva Night will offer sports-bra fittings, consultations with healthcare professionals such as naturopath Laurie Steelsmith and physical therapist Ginger Lockette, massage, wine tasting by Kalapawai Market and product samplings from Lanikai Bath and Body.
Since 80 percent of women wear the wrong size bra and 80 percent of Fleet Feet customers are women, owner Susan Redpath thought it was time to tackle the issue: "This night will allow women to shop safely among other women and not to worry about asking questions about fit and performance," she said.

'VINTAGE MY WAY'
If deconstructed vintage is your style, you'll want to be at rRed Elephant on Bethel Street in Chinatown Saturday night. In an edgy show of recycled and updated vintage garments, Urban Nomad, Anna Lucas and jewelry designer Ma Di will share the stage from 6 to 7 p.m.
Shown here is a vintage slip embellished with crochet and ribbons ($70) and a jacket with fur collar and lace ruffles ($100) from Urban Nomad. Urban Nomad, by the way, is now semi-permanent (for this month, anyway) at 1023 Smith Street, open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
'A COMMON THREAD'
It's nail-biting time for the six seniors who will soon graduate from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Apparel Product Design & Merchandising Program. Dana Kawamura, Sandy Suzuki, Tina Vines, Dan Weaver, Jenna Weiss and Lisa Xiao are pulling all-nighters in preparation for a fashion show that signals their graduation from the program and foray into the world of fashion.
Themes for the show's senior segments are "A Stitch in Time," "Disarray" and "Masquerade." Each student will present a line in keeping with the themes. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the Sheraton Waikiki's Molokai Ballroom; tickets are $35 (includes lunch). Ticket information: 956-2244 or uhmfashionshow@gmail.com.
TAKEO TAKES RUNWAY
Takeo, who is known for dressing some of Hawai'i's most beautiful women, including Miss Universe Brooke Lee and Miss America Carolyn Sapp, will be honored this year by the Japanese Women's Society.
In a show of fashion and vocal talent titled "New Beginnings," Takeo's designs take to the runway at 11:30 a.m. May 7 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. A boutique will be open from 9 a.m.
Tickets are $55 and $75; proceeds will benefit the elderly care programs at Kuakini Geriatric Care at Hale Pulama Mau. For reservation forms and information, contact Patty Matsuo at 373-9090. Checks with reservation forms should be mailed to: JWSF Fashion Show, P.O. Box 3233, Honolulu, HI 96801.
TEA AND COCO
Karl Lagerfeld's spring/summer collection for Chanel is youthful and modern, inspired by a mythic meeting of Coco Chanel and actor James Dean. It's a clash of titans — rebellious, nonconformist, fearless — resulting in an eclectic contrast of Chanel's iconic black-and-white tweed with Dean's denim.
See the fashions at the fundraising event "Tea at Halekulani," 1 to 5 p.m. May 7 in the hotel's ballroom. In addition to the fashion show and teas and savories created by Halekulani's La Mer chef de cuisine, Yves Garnier, an intriguing silent auction will be featured. The piece de resistance will be an "Ultimate Parisian Fashion Experience," including attendance at the October world premiere in Paris of the Chanel spring/summer 2007 collection and a visit to Coco Chanel's apartment. Minimum bid is $5,000.
"Tea at Halekulani" benefits the American Red Cross' Hawai'i chapter. Tickets: $250 per person. For information, call Jaylene Chee at 739-8130.
