Tavares, Pagatpatan capture OIA tennis titles

Matthew Tavares of McKinley and Christie Pagatpatan of Waipahu won singles titles yesterday at the O'ahu Interscholastic Association individual tennis championships at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Tavares beat Cainan Shinjo of Leilehua, 6-4, 6-3. Pagatpatan defeated Tiffany DeVincent of Waialua, 6-2, 6-3. Pagatpatan was the defending champion.
In the boys doubles championship, Landon Oliva and Eric Watanabe of Pearl City defeated Stephan Ogasawara and Jason Lum of Kailua, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
In the girls doubles championship, Joelle Tanaka and Marie Tanaka of Kailua defeated Joelle Yamamoto and Kim Yamaguchi of Moanalua, 6-2, 6-2.
NISSAN/HHSAA HALL NOMINATIONS DUE MAY 3
The nomination deadline for the Nissan/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor is May 3. Nomination forms are available from high school athletic directors or may be downloaded from www.sportshigh.com
Forms must be submitted to the designated member of the Hall of Honor's Selection Committee listed on the form.
The Hall of Honor annually inducts 12 high school seniors based primarily on outstanding achievement in athletics, academics, leadership, character and community service. Inductees will each receive a $2,000 college scholarship and will be enshrined into the Hall at a banquet June 11 at the Sheraton Waikiki.

WAIPAHU WILL HOST NFL JPD CLINIC MAY 15-19
Waipahu High School will host an NFL Junior Player Development football clinic from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on May 15 to 19.
The clinic is free and open to players ages 12-14, but all attendees must first turn in a completed waiver form and have medical clearance to participate. The forms may be downloaded via Waipahu's school Web site (www.waipahuhigh.k12.hi.us), through the "Athletics" link.
Forms also may be picked up at Waipahu High School (675-0222). The forms are due May 12.
The clinic will be conducted by members of Waipahu's coaching staff and all participants will be taught skills in every position, in addition to lessons on character development. Each will receive a jersey, bag and football.
