UH women sixth in WAC tourney

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished sixth at the three-day Western Athletic Conference Championship that concluded yesterday at Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill, Calif.
San Jose State won the team title with a 58-over-par 922, followed by New Mexico State (931), Idaho and Fresno State (939), Nevada (944), Hawai'i (949) and Boise State (950).
Jenelle Gomez of San Jose State shot a final round 5-over 77 and won with a 11-over 227. She finished a stroke ahead of teammate Carmina Calle (78) and Idaho's Renee Skidmore (78), who also was named WAC Player of the Year yesterday.
UH's Dale Gammie, whose final-round 74 was tied for the best of the day, was named to the five-player All-WAC first team despite finishing in a tie for 21st.
New Mexico State junior Lehua Wise, a Kaua'i High alum, finished sixth after a 74�230. She was selected to the All-WAC second team.
Xyra Suyetsugu was Hawai'i's top finisher, tied for eighth at 233 after an 81 yesterday.
UH's Caroline Perez was 20th (80�240), and Gammie and Lisa Kajiwara (82) and Idaho's Kelly Nakashima (79), a Baldwin High alum, tied for 21st at 241.
Nevada's Jennie Pleas, a Kaua'i High graduate, was 26th after a 84�242.
