White elephants and Spam will party this weekend

Spring has sprung an overflowing calendar of festivals this weekend, ranging from school and community events to the ever-popular Spring New Products Show, which this year adds a Hawaii Boat Show. Note to fans of white-elephant sales: This is your weekend.

SPRING NEW PRODUCTS

What's new on land and sea will be showcased at the 31st annual Spring New Products Show and Hawaii Boat Show this weekend. Expect more than 200 booths of food, fashion, health and fitness items, jewelry, home accessories, and boat and watersports accessories. There's also the annual Strongest Man Contest and Hawaii's Strongest Teen Competition, inflatable rides for the keiki, and bungee and rock-climbing for adults.

5 to 10 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Admission is $5 general; $4 military, those 65 and older and children 7-12; free for kids under 7 with paying adult. 945-3594.

SAINT LOUIS FEST

The 2nd 'Ohana Festival at Saint Louis School is a two-day affair that features entertainment, a classic cars exhibit, games, food booths, a white-elephant sale and a country store.

Related attractions: At 8 p.m. today there's a student dance and concert featuring Ho'onu'a; $8 for students with school ID, others $15. At about 6:30 p.m. (or after the sun goes down) Saturday, there's a free screening of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

1 to 7 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (white-elephant sale opens at 9 a.m.). The school is at 3142 Wai'alae Ave. Admission is free. 739-4800.

WAIPAHU BAZAAR

The Waipahu United Church of Christ is celebrating its 45th anniversary with a Spring Bazaar. Among the attractions: a white-elephant sale, plants, country store and Koala Moa rotisserie chicken.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, 94-330 Mokuola St. Admission is free. 677-3317.

FAMILY PLAY DAY

St. Timothy's Children's Center's annual Family Play Day is a fundraiser that features hands-on learning, keiki ID, storytime, University of Hawai'i athlete meet-and-greets, entertainment, food, a bake sale, craft fair, country store, plant sale, white-elephant sale, silent auction and a Scholastic book fair.

There's free parking at Pearl Ridge Elementary. Or park at Waimalu Elementary and Our Savior Lutheran School and catch the free shuttles.

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, 98-939 Moanalua Road, 'Aiea. Admission is free. 488-1766.

WAI'ALAE FUN FAIR

The Friends of Wai'alae School Fun Fair will be bursting with food, game booths, bouncers and slides, a dunking tank, silent auction, white-elephant sale, country store, crafts and entertainment by Tapa Groove (Weldon Kekauoha, Tapa Groove's frontman, is a Wai'alae alumnus). Mad Science also will offer hands-on, theatrical presentations and Wai'alae's after-school hula group will perform.

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, 1045 19th Ave., Kaimuki. Admission is free; purchase scrip at the event.

SAINT FRANCIS FAIR

Family fun is promised at the 7th annual Ohana fair at Saint Francis School. That's where you'll find Xtreme fun rides, LegoTown, face-painting, a white-elephant sale, games, Nozawa's Ponies and Petting Zoo, a silent auction, Sisters' Country Store, a farmers' market and lots of food. There's entertainment, too, with Cirque Hawaii, Rodney Villanueva, Kalena, No Limitz, the Performing Arts Academy and a Chinese lion dance.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 2707 Pamoa Road, Manoa. Admission is free. 988-4111.

WAIKIKI SPAM JAM

Spam lovers, Waikiki welcomes you with open arms at the 4th annual festival that's devoted to the pinkish meat product. The Spam Jam block party, which attracted an estimated 20,000 attendees last year, features Spam merchandise such as T-shirts, shorts and slippers, food that focuses on Spam, crafts, games and prizes. There's entertainment: Missing Dave, Pimpbot, Go Jimmy Go, Keahiwai, Raiatea Helm, B.E.T. and others.

Bring cans of Spam to donate to the Hawaii Foodbank, too.

CHILDREN'S DAY

The Japanese holiday Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) — will be celebrated at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i with keiki games, make-and-take crafts and food.

There'll also be martial-arts demonstrations and traditional Japanese dances and songs.

KAILUA TOWN PARTY

If you love or like Kailua, here's your chance to show it.

The 14th annual I Love Kailua town party offers entertainment, crafts, plants, keiki activities, health screenings by Castle Medical Center and the tastebud-tempting A Taste of Kailua, featuring fare by Kailua restaurants.

The party is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on Kailua Road. Attendees are encouraged to purchase a button, available at 50 Kailua businesses, for $3 advance, $4 at the event. Free for kids 12 and younger. 234-0404.
