Sixth-seeded Bradlee Lum-Tucker and Jesse Paer defeated top-seeded Michael Bruggemann and Erich Chen, 6-3, 7-6 (4), last night in the quarterfinals of the Kailua Racquet Club Men's Night Doubles.
In another quarterfinal match, fifth-seeded Mikael Maatta and Jan Axel Tribler beat Anders Eriksson and Trey Phillips, 6-4, 6-4.
Two more quarterfinal matches are scheduled for tonight.

PEARL CITY SENIORS WIN
Ryno Acosta batted 4 for 5, including a double and triple, and scored four runs as Pearl City routed Idaho, 25-0, yesterday at the Little League Senior Division (ages 14-16) Western Regional at Salem, Ore.
Jason Rasa pitched a three-hitter in the game that was shortened to five innings.
Kurt Poentis added three hits and Carlton Tanabe drove in two runs for Pearl City (1-0), which plays Milipitas, Calif. today.

FIVE HEADED TO HERSHEY
Five Hawai'i teenagers were selected to represent the state at the Hershey Youth Program National Track and Field Games on Saturday at Hershey, Pa.
The five were picked from among the 700-plus participants at the 24th Annual Hershey Track and Field Meet, June 24, at Mililani; the Big Island Hershey Meet, May 20, and the Maui Hershey meet, June 23.
The participants are: Big Island's Jordyn Breitbarth, girls age 9-10, softball throw; Maui's Maya Palaroan, girls 11-12, 100 meters; Mililani's Kimberly Pugliese, girls 13-14, 1600 meters; Maui's Tomasi Paahana, boys 13-14, long jump; and Maui's Cynric Aquinde, boys 13-14, 200 meters.
The Hawai'i contingent will be part of the Pacific Southwest Regional Team, one of eight regional teams from the U.S. and Canada.
The Hershey's Track and Field Games is the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America, according to organizers. More than 400,000 children participate in the program yearly, representing more than 3,000 communities across the country.

TWO WAHINE HONORED
University of Hawai'i junior midfielder Jessica Domingo and junior defender Koren Takeyama were named to 2006 Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference team as voted on by the conference coaches.
Both were first-team All-WAC selections last year.
DIVING
MONDEN PLACES EIGHTH
Aleia Monden, a 2006 St. Andrew's Priory graduate from Mililani, finished eighth in the 10-meter platform Sunday at the USA Diving Junior National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
Monden begins competition today at the senior nationals.

SPALDING-BARTLETT GETS SIX GOLDS IN KAYAKING
Olympian Lauren Spalding-Bartlett from Maui won six gold medals and a silver at last week's Flatwater Sprint National Championships in Gainesville, Ga.Spalding was part of the winning teams in the K-4 and K-2 1000, K-4 and K-2 500, and K-4 and K-2 200. She also took second, to Hawai'i club teammate Carrie Johnson, in the K-1 200.
Hawai'i's Andy Bussey — another Olympian — and Daniel Krawczyk captured the K-2 1000 and 500, and the K-4 Masters 1000. They were also part of winning K-4 500 team.
Bussey was second in the K-1 1000, with Hawai'i's Pat Dolan third. Dolan won the K-1 Junior 1000 by eight seconds to earn the Greg Barton Award.
JUDO
CHOW WINS WORLD TITLE
Hawai'i's Melinda Chow won her division at the inaugural USA Judo Junior World Trials last weekend, culminating a month that also saw her receive the Sportsmanship Award after winning at USA Judo National Junior Olympic Championships.
Chow won the Girls Intermediate 2, 48-kilogram (106 pounds) title in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Honolulu's Nahoakuwoo Salera also earned multiple honors, capturing the 42-kilogram Intermediate 2 division and receiving the Best Technique Award from among some 300 competitors.
The two were among 11 Hawai'i winners. The event featured athletes from 17 countries, with Americans competing for the right to advance to Junior World Championships in October in the Dominican Republic.
Other Hawai'i champions: Teshya Alo, Teniya Alo, Noah Pineda-Abaya, Joshua Terao, Chade Wong, Kulana Salera, Jacob Palimo'o, Chaeden Grace-Reyes and Dane Pestano.
Honolulu's Taylor Ibera won the Girls Juvenile B (born 1990-1991) 44-kilogram division at Junior Olympics.
FOOTBALL
WITHY-ALLEN HAS 4 TDS
Former Kalaheo High and Hawai'i quarterback Shawn Withy-Allen threw four touchdown passes, but his Fayetteville (Ark.) Guard team lost to the Billings (Mont.) Outlaws, 59-44, Friday night in the National Indoor Football League championship game.
