U.S. Rep. Ed Case said yesterday he would ask that all negotiations regarding the format for his Aug. 31 debate with U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka on PBS Hawai'i be made public.

Case, in a letter to Akaka, also asked the senator to work with him so the debate would also be televised by commercial stations or C-SPAN. The congressman has been disappointed that Akaka has agreed to only one debate and has rejected any candidate-to-candidate questions.

"Voters are owed a full debate," Case said at a news conference. "Voters are owed a full, informed choice."

Akaka's campaign said the debate format would be discussed with the sponsor, AARP Hawai'i.
