Tickets for UH volleyball regional match now on sale

The 12th-seeded University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will play No. 5 Southern California at 7 Friday night in the NCAA Regional semifinals at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The match will follow the 4:30 p.m. semifinal between No. 4 UCLA (31-3) and No. 13 Oklahoma (28-5). UH's record is 28-5; USC is 27-4.
The semifinal winners will play in the regional final at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tickets are on sale as a two-day package for $36 (lower level) and $30 (upper level). Individual day tickets will be sold on Friday, if available.

Saturday's final will be televised live by ESPNU; Friday's semifinals broadcast has yet to be finalized.
All UH matches will be broadcast live on the radio on ESPN 1420 AM.
BASKETBALL
WHITING SPURS CU MEN
Zack Whiting had 24 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds as Chaminade defeated Holy Names (Oakland, Calif.), 91-76, yesterday in a men's game at McCabe Gym.
Marko Kolaric contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Silverswords (3-3), who shot 56 percent (37 of 66) from the field, headed by Kolaric's 9-for-11 accuracy. Mike Green added 17 points and five assists.
Marshall Hartman scored 21 points, Troy Cotton had 17 and Julius Cumlat added 12 assists for the Hawks (3-8).
CU WOMEN WIN FIRST
Brittnee Fonnesbeck had 31 points and 13 rebounds as the Chaminade beat Hawai'i Pacific, 83-79, in overtime yesterday in a women's game at McCabe Gym.
Samantha Saito added 17 points, Simrin Cummins 15 and Marian Murphy 11 for the Silverswords (1-3), who outscored the Sea Warriors 16-12 in the extra period.
Ashley Jenkins had 28 points and 14 rebounds, Jocelyne Norris added 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Kanani Thomas contributed 17 points for HPU (0-6).
HILO WOMEN LOSE
Ashley Freerksen scored 19 points as Nebraska-Omaha defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 97-61, yesterday in a women's game of the Doubletree Downtown Classic at Omaha, Neb.
Karen Thies added 18 points for the Mavericks (6-1).
Krystlelyn Omlan scored 14 points, Sheila Azevedo had 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Emily Kingery contributed 10 points for the Vulcans (0-6).
TENNIS
RUSSELL WINS AT WAILEA
Fifth-seeded Michael Russell defeated fellow American Sam Warburg, 6-1, 6-0, yesterday to capture the singles championship of the $50,000 Wailea Men's Challenger at the Wailea Tennis Club.
Earlier in the day, Russell completed a 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 semifinal victory over top-seeded Paul Goldstein in a match that was suspended by rain Saturday in the third set.
Also yesterday, top seeds Rajeev Ram and Brian Wilson, of the U.S., beat Hawai'i's Chris Lam and Brazil's Rodrigo Grilli, 6-3,6-2, in the doubles final.
SOFTBALL
HILO SIGNS FIVE PLAYERS
The Hawai'i-Hilo softball team has signed five players to national letters of intent, including two-time Maui Interscholastic League Player of the Year Nicole Alconcel.
Alconcel, a 2006 first-team All-State pick, is a right-handed pitcher/utility player.
Also signing were: Hoku Nohara, an infielder/catcher from Kamehameha who is also a three-time state wrestling champion and 13-time world record holder in weightlifting; Tessa Truong, an outfielder from Chino Hills (Calif.) High School; Lauren Holmes, an outfielder from Temescal Canyon (Calif.) High School, and Christina Pedroza, a pitcher from La Mirada (Calif.) High School.
ATHLETICS
GAISON TO BE HONORED
Kamehameha Schools athletic director Blane Gaison is one of eight who will receive a special citation award from the National Federation of State High School Associations on Dec. 12 in Anaheim, Calif.
Gaison has been Kamehameha's A.D. since 1996, and also served as president of the board of directors of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu from 1999 to 2005.
The federation's citations are given annually "to outstanding athletic directors in recognition of contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels," according to a Kamehameha Schools press release.
Gaison served on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association board of directors from 2002 to 2005.
