Man, 25, shot in Kailua Zippy's lot

A 25-year-old man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious but stable condition early yesterday morning after being shot while in the parking lot of the Kailua Zippy's, according to Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

Paramedics responded to the call on Oneawa Street around 4:30 a.m., Cheplic said. The man was shot in the knee.

Police, who are classifying the case as an attempted murder, said the victim was involved in an argument at a Kailua nightclub earlier that night. It's believed the shooter sped off in a silver sport utility vehicle.


CAR ROLLS DOWN EMBANKMENT

A man in his early 20s was taken to Queen's yesterday in serious but stable condition after his car rolled down an embankment at the intersection of the H-1 Freeway and Makakilo Drive and came to rest in an open field, EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.

Paramedics got the call about 4:15 a.m.


52-YEAR-OLD MAN 'IN BAD SHAPE'

A 52-year-old man injured on the grounds of the Kahuku motocross track was taken by helicopter to Queen's in critical condition yesterday with extensive trauma injuries. EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the injuries were "not life-threatening, but he's in bad shape."

Paramedics took him from the track area to Sunset Beach Elementary School, where he was placed on the helicopter.


WAHIAWA POLICE ARREST 2, SEIZE ICE

Police officers from the Wahiawa Crime Reduction Unit arrested two people and seized an undisclosed amount of crystal methamphetamine and marijuana in a search-warrant raid Saturday morning on 'Ohai Street.

The raid was in response to numerous community complaints of drug activity at the address, police said.

A man, 34, and woman, 33, who live at the address were booked on drug and theft charges. The man was also arrested for being a felon in possession of a .22-caliber rife, according to police.

The couple were released pending further investigation.


PAIR RELEASED IN WAIPAHU ATTACK

A man and woman, both 20, have been released pending further investigation after being booked Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with an attack on a woman, 42, in Waipahu.

The woman told police the man threatened her with a pistol before hitting her during an ensuing argument. As the victim tried to run, the woman suspect allegedly drove a car at her.


ALLEGED GUNMAN ARRESTED AT PARTY

Police arrested a 24-year-old man early yesterday for allegedly shooting a rifle and threatening other guests after being asked to leave a party on Ala Walua Street in Makaha. Police said the man got into further trouble for damaging the interior of a police patrol car after being arrested at the scene.

He was booked at 12:55 a.m. yesterday.


LANIKAI SAILBOAT ARSON SUSPECTED

An early morning fire Saturday on a sailboat anchored about 100 feet offshore at Lanikai was deliberately set, according to Honolulu Fire Department investigators. The 4:12 a.m. fire caused an estimated $8,000 damage. There have been no arrests in the case.


MOLOKA'I MAN DIES AFTER CYCLE CRASH

A 62-year-old Moloka'i man injured in a motorcycle crash on Mo'omomi Avenue near Mokulele Street in Ho'olehua died yesterday at Queen's.

Sgt. Michael Bates said no other injuries were reported in the 10 a.m. crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation and the identity of the man was being withheld until notification of next of kin, said Bates.


VILLAGE PARK MAN HELD IN SEX ASSAULT

A 38-year-old Village Park man was charged Friday with 19 counts of sexual assault involving a minor. Jeffrey Cox was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. The attacks allegedly occurred from February 2004 through October 2006.


MAN ARRESTED IN MACHETE ATTACK

Police arrested a 27-year-old man today on suspicion of breaking into his former girlfriend's Nanakuli home and threatening the woman and her present boyfriend with a machete.

The man was arrested at 3:50 p.m. and booked on suspicion of terroristic threatening, burglary, abuse of a household member and criminal property damage. Charges are pending.

The criminal property damage count is related to damage to the windshield of a vehicle belonging to the male victim.

The woman, 26, and man, 19, were not injured.
