HAWAI'I BRIEFS
TheBus contest to honor Favela

Advertiser Staff

Tomorrow's TheBus Roadeo, a skilled-driving competition for city bus operators, will be dedicated to the memory of Steve Favela, the Honolulu police motorcycle officer who died from injuries suffered in a crash while escorting President Bush on his recent visit here.

Favela had been a Roadeo judge for the past three years.

This year's Roadeo will feature 19 operators. The event will be held at TheBus facility in Pearl City, 1200 Waimano Home Road, from 8:15 to 11 a.m. The competition features an obstacle course, timed runs and intricate maneuvers using a 40-foot-long bus.

There's also a maintenance team competition.

The winning driver and maintenance team will represent the city in a national competition. Honolulu's maintenance team placed third there last year.
