TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"A Perfect Day," 6 p.m., TNT; repeats at 8 p.m. and midnight. Here is the slimmest of stories, pat and predictable. It's been salvaged by director Peter Levin and a solid, restrained cast. Rob Lowe plays an out-of-work ad man who writes a successful book. His new life spins out of control. The only surprise here involves a character played by Christopher Lloyd — and that part is an extreme stretch. Still, we keep watching because it's a good-looking show with Lowe and Paget Brewster making the writer and his wife believable and worth rooting for.

OF NOTE

"Brokeback Mountain" (2005), 6 p.m., HBO. Directed beautifully (by Ang Lee) and acted with quiet perfection, this story of forbidden homosexuality among 1950s cowboys is deeply moving.

"Flight 93" (2006), 7 p.m., A&E. Here's another chance to see this movie, re-enacting passengers' heroic effort to take over a plane on Sept. 11, 2001. The film received praise and an Emmy nomination.

"House," 7 p.m., Fox. This rerun goes back to a time when Foreman was briefly House's boss; House was not happy about it. Meanwhile, Cynthia Nixon of "Sex and the City" plays the heavy-drinking patient.

"The Class," 7:30 p.m., CBS. Kat challenges the straight-arrow Ethan to misbehave. Meanwhile, Richie and Lina go on a date.

"The New Adventures of Old Christine," 8:30 p.m., CBS. Christine fumes after her ex-husband takes their son to church.

"What About Brian," 9 p.m., ABC. Brian is bitter about the fact that Bridget (played by Krista Allen, 35) had an affair with his dad (William Devane, 69).

"10 Items or Less," 9 p.m., TBS. Oddly, everyone seems to play this show perfectly except John Lehr — who created it and stars. Kirsten Gronfield is wonderful tonight as Ingrid, reluctantly dating Leslie while longing for Todd. The others are excellent but Lehr overplays the role of Leslie.
