Once again, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team ran into a road block yesterday.

And the Rainbow Warriors don't even play their next game until Saturday.

The 'Bows experienced travel problems yesterday, forcing them to spend last night in Seattle. They were supposed to be in Boise, Idaho, but a canceled flight out of San Francisco forced a change in the itinerary.

"It's another one of those things," Hawai'i head coach Riley Wallace said. "We always seem to run into something on the road."

Hawai'i will play a Western Athletic Conference game at Boise State on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. Mountain time; 10 a.m. Hawai'i time). The 'Bows are 12-8 overall and 6-4 in the WAC. The Broncos are 12-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

The 'Bows planned on arriving in Boise around 7:30 last night. Instead, they spent four hours in the San Francisco airport, before getting re-routed to Seattle.

"The plane to Boise had some kind of mechanical problem; we were actually on the plane before they sent us back," Wallace said. "And then we just sat and waited and there was no other way to get us to Boise, so they sent us to Seattle and put us up for the night."

The 'Bows will take an early morning flight today from Seattle to Boise, so Wallace said the rest of the schedule should remain unchanged.

"Obviously, not what we wanted to do," he said. "But that's why I've always been in favor of leaving (Honolulu) early just in case something like this happens."

Hawai'i was hoping to take advantage of a scheduling quirk by arriving in Boise last night.

The Broncos were in Ruston, La., last night, losing a WAC road game at Louisiana Tech, 81-71. Boise State is scheduled to return home this afternoon, a few hours after the 'Bows.

"I don't know if it makes a difference, because everybody plays better at home in this league," Wallace said. "But we'll still get a couple of practices in so that should help us a little bit."

Despite last night's delay, the 'Bows will still get to practice today and tomorrow in preparation for Saturday's game. For most of its road games, Hawai'i gets to practice only once before the game.

In any case, Hawai'i is in search of its first road win this season.

The 'Bows have lost 10 consecutive road games dating to last season, and are 0-6 away from home this season.

"If we don't respond on the road, we don't deserve to go anywhere," Wallace said. "But we're in the (WAC) race, so I'm hoping we turn it around here."

Louisiana Tech moved into sole possession of first place last night at 8-3. Nevada and Utah State are 7-3, and Hawai'i is next at 6-4.

Boise State all but dropped out of contention for the lead with its loss last night.

"Even if you're not in the race, you still have to jockey for position in the (WAC) tournament," Wallace said. "So they still have a lot to play for. They'll be ready for us."

The 'Bows beat the Broncos, 72-61, at the Stan Sheriff Center Jan. 23.

"We always talk about how much tougher things are on the road," Wallace said. "Well, it's showing again right here."
