Burns Intercollegiate tees off at Leilehua

Ryan Moore, the 2004 John Burns Intercollegiate champion, is now playing for money on the PGA Tour. His former UNLV teammates return to Leilehua Golf Course to face off with 20 other men's teams next Wednesday to Friday.
Along with host University of Hawai'i, UH-Hilo and the seventh-ranked Rebels, the field includes Nagoya of Japan, sixth-ranked BYU, 18th-ranked San Diego State and 17th-ranked defending champion New Mexico.
Moore closed with an 8-under-par 64 last year and had a tournament total of 20-under.
Players tee off from 7:30 a.m. each day.
AMATEUR ENTRIES OPEN
The Hawai'i State Golf Association is taking entries for the Hawai'i State Amateur Stroke Play Championship, March 9 to 12 at Pearl Country Club.
Former University of Hawai'i golfer Matt Kodama won last year's title and is now playing as a professional.
Golfers must be a member of the HSGA with a USGA approved GHIN men's handicap index not exceeding 7.0. Entry fee is $160, which includes a cart. All entries must be postmarked by March 1.

Play Golf America Day in Hawai'i will be March 25 at Ko Olina Golf Club. It is one of 39 Play Golf America sites scheduled across the country. The program was created by the PGA of America to "showcase golf in a fun and relaxed atmosphere." Golfers of all ages and skill levels get free group and individual instruction from PGA professionals. Last year, Play Golf America Days were held at 12 facilities.
