'Aiea unseated Waipahu as the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's White Conference champion, and pitcher Ashley Scharsch was a big reason why.
In 60 innings pitched, she went 9-2 with a 1.75 earned run average and 57 strikeouts. In one of the season's most crucial games, Scharsch pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts to help Na Ali'i defeat Waipahu, 7-3.
She subsequently was named OIA White Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.
Al Cofran of conference runner-up Kalaheo repeated as Coach of the Year.
Kalaheo led the way with five selections on the OIA White All-Star first team. 'Aiea had three representatives, Waipahu had two and Radford had one.
