Hawai'i's Sanders honored by WAC

Hawai'i guard Amy Sanders has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced yesterday.
Sanders averaged 12.5 points and seven rebounds a game in two wins over Kent State last week. The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., also averaged 2.5 assists as the Rainbow Wahine (9-2) extended their winning streak to seven games.
Sanders leads UH in scoring (12.9 points), 3-point shots made (13) and 3-point field goal percentage (.351).
The Rainbow Wahine open WAC play Thursday at Nevada.

BYU-HAWAI'I WINS
Austin Smylie had 29 points and 11 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), 87-78, in a nonconference game last night at the Cannon Activities Center.
Smylie, who hit 12 of 17 from the field, added four assists and three steals for the Seasiders (4-5).
Wu Tai-hao added 14 points, Eric Boyce 13 and Danny Jackson 11 for BYUH, which hosts Chapman (Calif.) tonight at 7:30.
Stan Chismark led Olivet Nazarene (8-8) with 19 points.
VOLLEYBALL
CLINICS ON MAUI
College coaches Ruth Lawanson (Angelo State), Penny Lucas-White (Air Force) and Sharon Clark (Butler) will conduct American Volleyball Coaches Association clinics at the Kamehameha Schools-Maui campus.
The first is a coaches clinic and will be Jan. 13 and 14. It is co-hosted by the Maui Volleyball Club and costs $125 per coach.
On Jan. 15 and 16, Hawai'i Pacific's Tita Ahuna will join the the visiting coaches for a women's clinic for players, also co-hosted by Maui Volleyball Club. It costs $90 per player.
Registration deadline is Saturday.
