Capitol District art, architecture talks at State Art Museum

The arts and architecture of the Capitol District will be the focus of a series of Saturday lectures beginning today at the multipurpose room on the first floor of the Hawai'i State Art Museum, 250 S. Hotel St.
The free lectures begin at 2 p.m. and are open to the public. Each is an hour long, with the exception of the Jan. 28 session, which is two hours long.
The schedule:
Today: The Art of Otto Piene. The artist who created the just-restored "Sun" and "Moon" sculptures at the Capitol talks about his public art projects.
Jan. 14: Seeing Art in a New Light. Art conservator Rosa Lowinger discusses her work on the "Sun" and "Moon" light sculptures.
Jan. 21: Symbolism of the state Capitol. Architect Joseph Farrell looks at the building's architectural features.
Jan. 28: Rediscovering the Capitol District. Architect Alan Sanborn weighs the Warnecke Plan, the neighborhood's original master plan. Architect Frank Haines leads a virtual tour of the district's architecture.
