Theologian Elisabeth Schussler-Fiorenza, a professor at Harvard Divinity School, will discuss "Reclaiming the Power of Naming: Christian Feminist Theology," approaching scripture from a woman's perspective, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Clement's parish hall, 1515 Wilder Ave.

The internationally known scholar, lecturer and author began her career in Germany, where she earned her master's and doctorate in New Testament studies. She later taught at the University of Notre Dame and at the Episcopal School of Divinity in Cambridge, joining Harvard in 1988.

She will also preach at St. Clement's 10:15 a.m. service on Jan. 15.

MUSLIM FESTIVAL TUESDAY MORNING

The Muslim Association of Hawai'i holds its annual Eid ul-Adha on Tuesday morning at McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The festival of sacrifice, one of Islam's two major holidays, celebrates the teachings of the prophet Ibrahim. It recalls the story of Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his own son out of obedience to God. God spared the son, and a sheep was sacrificed instead. Thus, Muslims eat lamb and beef that has been ritually slaughtered in keeping with the tradition of sacrifice.

The event opens with a morning prayer service at 9, followed by a community breakfast, festivities and lunch. The holiday comes at the end of hajj, the season when Muslims make a pilgrimage to Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad. A pilgrimage to Mecca is one of the five pillars of Islam, or central religious duties.
