Two crashes involving speeding cars and a collision between an auto and bicyclist since Friday have killed one man and injured three others, two of them critically.

Police yesterday were looking for two men who fled the scene of an early morning crash of a stolen 2001 Nissan Maxima on Moanalua Freeway near the Red Hill off-ramp. The crash prompted the closure of the road from 12:37 to 4:15 a.m.

A third man, who police said was ejected from the back seat of the car when it hit a guardrail, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with serious injuries, possibly a broken knee.

On Saturday at 2:51 a.m., O'ahu recorded its first traffic fatality of the year in a crash on the H-1 Freeway near Campbell Industrial Park.

Police said the westbound car drifted off the road and hit a guardrail, a traffic pole and two signs. The driver, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with critical injuries.

Speed was a factor in both accidents, police said.

The medical examiner's office was awaiting confirmation of the dead man's identity before releasing his name.

Henry Dean, a civilian security worker killed in a one-car crash Wednesday at Pearl Harbor Naval Station, is not included in O'ahu's traffic fatality count because his death did not occur on a public road.

On Friday, a bicyclist was critically injured in a 6:12 p.m. collision with a vehicle on Diamond Head Road.
