Kamehameha film fest to spotlight 10 projects

Ten film projects, from a 45-minute concert documentary to public service announcements, will be screened at the Kamehameha Schools' third annual 'Ohana Film Festival.

Kamehameha Schools' students and graduates were involved in each of the films. The festival, at 6:30 p.m. today at the Ke'elikolani Auditorium on the school's Kapalama campus, is free and open to the public. Information: 842-8622.

The films:

  • "KSBS Champions": A look at the school's first state boys' soccer championship. 5 minutes.

  • "Fishbowl": Director Kayo Hatta's film based on Lois-Ann Yamanaka's novel "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers." 27 minutes.

  • "The Sand Island Drive-In Anthem": Workers at a plate-lunch place have a particularly grueling day. 20 minutes.

  • "Inertia": An anti-drug public-service announcement. 27 seconds.

  • "True Love and Mimosa Tea": Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Elizabeth Lindsey, Tamlyn Tomita and Greg Watanabe star in a romantic tale. 22 minutes.

  • "Couch Potato": Public service announcement about healthy lifestyles. 27 seconds.

  • "Valtor the Great vs. The Universe": Gerard Elmore ("Amasian: the Amazing Asian") directs a sci-fi tale. 10 minutes.

  • "Wally Amos Literacy PSA": Amos stresses the importance of reading. 30 seconds.

  • "Wahine O Ke Kai": This film follows Donna Kahi Kahakui and her efforts to raise awareness of ocean issues. 23 minutes.

  • "Aloha Live: On the Road With Willie K. and Amy Gilliom": Concert road film focuses on the two Island musicians on their 2003 Mainland tour. 45 minutes.
