HILO, Hawai'i — A Big Island grand jury has indicted Marwann Jackson in connection with the beating, sexual assault and slaying of pregnant Puna resident Sarah Fay, a case that stirred outrage around the state.
Fay, 34, was declared legally dead from head injuries shortly after she was attacked Nov. 25, but was kept alive on life support until her baby could be safely delivered Dec. 12.
The baby boy, Josiah Darcy Fay, will be raised by Fay's brother, Michael, in Denver.
Jackson, Fay's boyfriend, was indicted Wednesday for second-degree murder, first-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and violation of a restraining order that Fay had obtained last year to keep Jackson away from her.
Friends said the two had been seeing each other before the attack despite the restraining order.
Jackson, 24, who also uses the names Judah Jackson and Timothy Jackson, is being held at the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center in Hilo.
