Kahanamoku Foundation aids 31 athletes

The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation awarded $50,000 in college scholarships to 31 Hawai'i high school water sports and volleyball athletes for the 2006-07 school year.
Recipients were required to have a minimum 3.3 grade point average and demonstrate a need for financial aid.
The foundation also awarded $50,000 in athletic grants to accomplished competitors in "Duke" sports and organizations that support water sports and youth programs.
The $100,000 awarded by the ODKF is a 20-percent increase from last year.
Of the 31 scholarship winners, 19 are first-time recipients. Twenty two are or will be attending Mainland colleges.
Outrigger Canoe Club started the foundation in 1990 to "financially support the development of individuals and organizations that perpetuate the spirit and legacy of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku."

GOLF
VIERRA, CHUN TRIUMPH
Sanae Vierra won the overall gross title and Joann Chun the net title at the Waialae Women's Golf Invitational yesterday at Waialae Country Club.
Vierra shot a second-round 6-over-par 78 and finished at 159.
Chun shot a second-round 69 (21 handicap) for a 143 total.
Lily Yao, in the championship flight, also shot a 159 gross after an 81 in the final round.
FUNDRAISER
PAC-FIVE EVENT FRIDAY
The Pac-Five football fundraiser/reunion will be held Friday at Sam Sneads Tavern on the Navy Marine Golf Course.
