Harrah's has bought a 20-acre apartment complex behind the Strip for $165 million. This increases the casino giant's holdings to 180 acres between Harrah's Las Vegas and Paris, including more than a mile of Strip frontage and a large chunk stretching from the back doors of its east Strip casinos. It all points toward the eventual building of a mega-complex at the center Strip. The only sticking point is the Barbary Coast casino, which sits in the middle of the Harrah's holdings, but is owned by Boyd Gaming. Many believe that a sale of the Barbary Coast to Harrah's is in the works, which would clear the way for the biggest casino project in history.
MONKEY BUSINESS: With the World Series of Poker's championship under way, one of the most talked-about developments is the entry of Mikey the Monkey. A $10,000 seat has been bought for a monkey that's been trained to look at his cards and bet with good hands. Follow his progress at www.monkeyshare.net.
BREAKFAST DEAL: Klondike Sunset offers a 99-cent bacon- and-eggs breakfast from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. daily. It also serves a 99-cent pancake breakfast around the clock. Klondike Sunset is on the southeast side of town, near Henderson.
