Local boxer falls at Pan Ams

Mililani's Colleen Loo was defeated by the Dominican Republic's Yazmin Altragracia Pena, 18-2, in a pinweight (101 pounds) bout yesterday at the Pan American Games at Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Loo, ranked No. 2 in the United States in her weight division, boxes out of the PearlSide Boxing Club in Pearl City. The 19-year-old is the first female boxer from Hawai'i to compete in the Pan Am Games.

WATABU SHOOTS 77, TIED FOR 82ND AT NCAAS
University of Nevada golfer Casey Watabu of Kaua'i is in a tie for 82nd place at the men's NCAA golf championships in Sunriver, Ore.
Watabu shot a 5-over 77 yesterday for a three-round total of 222.
Loyola Marymount's Chaz Inouye, a St. Anthony alum, is tied for 142nd with a 234.
Oklahoma State freshman Jonathan Moore shot a 3-under 69 yesterday to lead the individual competition by one stroke. Washington leads the team race by three shots.

UH'S GAUTHIER HONORED BY ESPN THE MAGAZINE
University of Hawai'i junior Patricia Gauthier was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Women's Cross Country and Track & Field second team.
Gauthier, an Ottawa, Ontario native, compiled a 3.93 grade point average in Spanish. She is the school record holder in the pole vault.
