HILO, Hawai'i — Burglars broke into the Waiakea Intermediate School library over the weekend and stole computer components before setting a fire, police said.

The fire apparently died out before spreading. Police described the fire damage as minimal.

The break-in was discovered at the Puainako Street campus at 8:15 a.m. Sunday by a school employee.

Police said they do not know if there is any link between the intermediate school fire and the series of arson fires at adjoining Waiakea High School.

An April 11 fire at the high school caused an estimated $1.5 million damage to the administration building. It was the third deliberately set fire on the high school campus this year.
