Nine Northwest athletes honored

Nine student-athletes from Hawai'i were named to the Academic All-Northwest Conference Team for spring sports.
Willamette freshman tennis player Tiffany Chang (Waiakea of Hilo) is undeclared.
Puget Sound freshman track and field member Katie Craigie (Punahou '05 of Honolulu) is undeclared.
Puget Sound sophomore track and field member Kelly Higa (Iolani '04 of Kane'ohe) is a business major.
Whitworth senior tennis player Sandy Fujitani (King Kekaulike of Kula) is an elementary education major.
Willamette sophomore tennis player Tiffany Kam (Punahou of Honolulu) is a biology major.
Pacific freshman track and field member Michelle Lee (Mililani) is an exercise science major.
Linfield senior left-handed pitcher Kyle Nakamichi (Moanalua '02 of Honolulu) is a mathematics major.
Willamette freshman right-handed pitcher Kelsey Nakata (Mililani '05) is undeclared.
Lutheran freshman tennis player James Odan (Kaua'i '05 of Lihu'e) Odan is undeclared.
FOOTBALL
Oregon State lineman Jeremy Perry (Kahuku '04) was named to The Sporting News Pac-10 Conference Preseason second team.
SOFTBALL
Tennessee infielder Liane Horiuchi (Kamehameha '05) was named to the Thornton Center Honor Roll.
COMMITMENT
Aveni Leung Wai ('Aiea '05) verbally committed to play football for Brigham Young University.
Leung Wai, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker, played at Grossmont College in San Diego last season. He will play another season at Grossmont, then go on a church mission before joining BYU in the fall of 2009.
"I always wanted to play there; my parents raised me really well and BYU's teachings are in line with everything they taught me," Leung Wai said. "It feels really good knowing I'm pretty much set going into this season and I'm not stressing out about where I'm going."
