Girl, 6, killed in SUV, bus crash

A 6-year-old girl was killed and two people were injured yesterday when the sport utility vehicle they were in collided head-on with a bus on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast.
The accident happened about 4 p.m. on Hawai'i Belt Road, about 25 miles west of Hilo, the Hawai'i County Fire Department said.
None of the 29 people on the bus received medical treatment.
A heavy rain was falling in the area when the SUV apparently crossed the center line and collided with the bus, fire officials said.
An 11-year-old girl in the SUV was flown by helicopter to North Hawai'i Community Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
The SUV's driver, an adult woman, was taken by ambulance to the same hospital with less serious injuries.
ABUSE INCIDENT POSSIBLE FELONY
A 44-year-old Wai'anae man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly punched and kicked his 52-year-old girlfriend on a beach in Wai'anae.
Police said the two live in a tent on the beach and got into an argument about 1 p.m. The argument escalated and became violent when the man allegedly attacked the woman, resulting in cuts and scrapes to the left side of her body, police said.
Police arrested the boyfriend on suspicion of domestic abuse. A subsequent check showed the boyfriend had been convicted on three prior occasions for domestic abuse, so the incident Wed-nesday is being investigated as a felony, police said.
CUE STICK USED IN TRAFFIC FIGHT
Police arrested a 40-year-old man Wednesday night after he allegedly beat a 25-year-old man with a cue stick following a traffic incident at the corner of Kapi'olani Boulevard and McCully Street.
Police said the two men were driving separate vehicles when one of the drivers did something to offend the other about 9 p.m. Police were told that the older man got out of his car and, carrying a cue stick, approached the younger man. He then began to hit the man with the stick, police said.
The two then got into a scuffle that resulted in substantial injuries to both, police said. They were taken to nearby hospitals in serious condition.
The man with the cue stick was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault because the stick is considered a "dangerous instrument," police said.
