TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Walkout," 6 p.m., HBO. Back in 1968, this passionate film tells us, students in Los Angeles' Latino areas were second-class citizens. They were barred from speaking Spanish. They were barred from restrooms during the noon hour. They had old books, old buildings and low expectations. Then they risked everything — arrest, expulsion and more — to stage a walkout. That story is told in the kind of film we expect from HBO. It's intelligently written, beautifully directed and perfectly acted. Edward James Olmos directed and appears briefly as the lone Latino on the school board. But the real focus is on Alexa Vega, best-known for the "Spy Kids" trilogy. She plays Paula Cristostomo, an earnest teen who is torn between the fervor of her teacher (played by Michael Pena) and the conservative approach of her parents (Yancey Arias and Laura Harring). This is a richly layered character that viewers will root for. "Walkout" stirs strong emotions.

OF NOTE

"Hustle," 5 p.m., AMC. Here's a chance to sink into this stylish British series filled with scam schemes. First are reruns of the three most recent episodes. Then, at 10 p.m., is a new one in which the gang scams money from a comic book convention and is then blackmailed by a crooked cop.

"The Sixth Sense" (1999), 7 p.m., ABC. This smart thriller has been shown a lot on TV and cable. If you haven't seen it yet, savor the creepy craft of the writing and direction of M. Night Shyamalan and his tale of a boy (Haley Joel Osment) who sees dead people.

"Saturday Night's Main Event," 7 p.m., NBC. It's been 13 years since NBC tried Saturday-night wrestling. Now the event returns with a new set of stars. The old days had Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Jesse "The Body" Ventura. The new ones have John Cena, Triple H, Edge and more.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002), 8 p.m., Disney. The second Potter film offers a fairly entertaining mix of magic and entertainment as Harry and crew look for the chamber of secrets. It adds good work from Kenneth Branagh as a self-obsessed magician.

"Conviction," 9 p.m., NBC. In a quick rerun of yesterday's episode, Potter (Jordan Bridges) doesn't mention to colleagues that he was at a party that led to arrests for cocaine use.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Alec Baldwin hosts with Shakira as the musical guest.
