It was once known as Waikiki Waena, then as Kamo'ili'ili, and finally Mo'ili'ili, a storied O'ahu community. And today, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, its history and a new book, "Mo'ili'ili — The Life of a Community," come to life at a new exhibit of the same name featuring photographs and memorabilia.

Today's grand opening and the continuing exhibit — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, through May 5 — is free. 945-7633.

Mark your calendars: Laura Ruby, co-curator of the exhibit, the book's editor and a University of Hawai'i art instructor, will present the free slide show "Mo'ili'ili Neighborhoods" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. April 8 at the cultural center. Attendees are encouraged to share their memories of the neighborhood.
