Big Island police are investigating an alleged assault at the Waters of Life Public Charter School in Kea'au.

Four students, one school counselor and one teacher were injured in the incident Tuesday morning, and three 17-year-old girls were later arrested.

The three girls, all students at Kea'au High School, are accused of pushing their way past the counselor as they looked for another girl. They also are accused of assaulting her.

Police said that after further investigation, the three students were charged with several assaults, burglary, criminal property damage and trespass. They were released to their parents.

Authorities believe the investigation may uncover additional suspects and charges.

TEENS SOUGHT FOR KAWAI NUI PROJECT

Earth Day organizers are seeking high school student participation in projects to benefit Kawai Nui Marsh.

A hosted luncheon planning meeting is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Cinnamon's Restaurant, 315 Uluniu St., Kailua.

The Windward Ahupua'a Alliance received a small grant from the Hawai'i People's Fund to buy supplies and tools for the removal of invasive species on Kapa'a Quarry Road, said Shannon Wood, with the alliance. But the project must involve students from the three area public high schools and private high school students who live on the Windward side, Wood said.
