TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition — After the Storm" debut, 7 p.m., ABC. Jerod Murphy had just returned home after reportedly being wounded in the war in Iraq. He found a new emergency in his home town as Hurricane Katrina hit Biloxi, Miss. Murphy went to the nearby military base, gathering manpower and an amphibious vehicle. Then came a mission credited with rescuing 200 people. In this special — the first of four on Thursdays devoted to Katrina victims — Murphy re-creates the mission. That includes a surprise reunion. That's one of several pieces in this hour. A demolished medical clinic is rebuilt. Washer-dryer units are donated to 29 households living in FEMA trailers. And a memorial to the storm's victims is designed.
OF NOTE
"NCAA Basketball Tournament," 2 p.m., CBS. The college tournament starts its new round with 16 teams left. That varies by region, but there will be doubleheaders Thursday and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the tourney finds its Final Four.
"Will & Grace," 7 p.m., NBC. Jack figures he's found the perfect guy. He drags Will to meet him at a gay cowboy bar.
"My Name is Earl," 8 p.m., NBC. We really should have wondered just what Earl and Randy were doing as the millennium approached. Back then, people were saying Y2K would bring the end of the world. These two guys tend to over-react. Tonight, one of their old misdeeds brings a stream of memories.
"American Inventor," 8 p.m., ABC. The second week of the show has inventors auditioning in Chicago and San Francisco.
"The Office," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Here's a rerun of a funny episode: Afraid to choose a health plan, Michael assigns the job to Dwight. Drunk with power, Dwight moves into a bigger office and demands personal information. Jim and Pam retaliate by making up funny diseases. Dwight is not amused.
"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. The staff tries desperately to keep a young woman alive until a surgeon arrives. Meanwhile, shy Neela prepares to give a talk. Sam, who needs extra money, takes a part-time job with a recent patient, played by Armand Assante.
