Is Monday a day off for you? If so, thank Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole, for whom the Kuhio Day state holiday is named.
And all can celebrate the life of the prince at the annual parade — from 4 p.m. today, beginning at Fort DeRussy, along Kalakaua Avenue and ending at Kapi'olani Park — showcasing bands, civic clubs, entertainment, floats and antique cars.
Kuhio is most remembered for persuading Congress to open public lands for homesteading by Native Hawaiians. He died in 1922.
