Stanford's Sun 6th in NCAA 100 backstroke

Stanford's Hongzhe Sun finished sixth in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke yesterday at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Athens, Ga.
Sun, an Iolani alum, finished in 46.88 seconds. Matt Grevers of Northwestern won in 45.93.
Florida's 200 medley relay team with Punahou alum Nick Borreca finished seventh in the finals in 1:29.90. Arizona won in 1:23.88. Stanford, with Sun, was disqualified in the final.
Hawai'i's Mats Wiktorsson placed 16th in the 3-meter diving event with 304.65 points and missed the finals. The top eight advanced and gained All-America status, while the second eight were honorable mention.
UH's Thomas Winkler was 17th in the 100 backstroke in 48.21 seconds, missing the finals by 1/100th of a second.

QB GESSER STARS IN LOSS
Former Saint Louis School and Washington State star Jason Gesser threw six touchdown passes, but the Utah Blaze lost to the Las Vegas Gladiators, 49-47, last night in an Arena Football League game at Salt Lake City.
Jason Fife threw three touchdown passes to lead the Gladiators (4-5).
The Blaze fell to 2-6.
LITTLE LEAGUE
DELAY IN WEST O'AHU
Opening Day ceremonies for the West O'ahu Little League scheduled for today has been postponed because of heavy rains this past week.
The ceremonies will be held April 2 starting at 10 a.m. at Mahiko Park, located on Renton Road in 'Ewa Beach.
Last season, a team from West O'ahu became the first from Hawai'i to win the Little League World Series title in Williamsport, Pa.
West O'ahu beat Curacao in the final on Michael Memea's walk-off homer.
