Punahou's Mikey Lim and St. Francis' Kalei Gora remained on track to successfully defend their state championships yesterday at the Carlsmith Ball State Tennis Tournament.

Lim and Gora won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches at Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club/Po'ipu Kai tennis courts on Kaua'i.

Lim, the No. 4 seed, knocked off top-seeded teammate Skyler Tateishi, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the semifinals. He will face No. 2 seed Spencer Mendoza of Kealakehe in today's final.

Mendoza beat Punahou's Kevin Caulfield, 6-2, 7-5, in the semifinals.

Gora beat Waipahu's Christie Pagatpatan, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals.

Gora will face second-seeded Brooke Doane of Kamehameha Schools today in the final. Doane beat Kapa'a's Lyndsey Tom, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the boys doubles final, it will be an all-Punahou matchup. Jon Wong and Alex Ching will face Erik Shoji and Hiroshi Hikida for the crown.

In girls doubles, the top-seeded team of Kristin Lim and Ashley Ohira of Punahou will meet Joelle Yamamoto and Kim Yamaguchi of Moanalua in the final.
