The Better Business Bureau of Hawai'i has elected former Unity House president DWIGHT KEALOHA as chief executive officer. Before joining BBB, Kealoha was vice president of Kuluku LLC and Kuhana Associates LLC, two small businesses developed under the Native Hawaiian Organization program. Kealoha was appointed chief executive officer and president of union organization Unity House when it was under federal court receivership. He also served as director of information technology, facilitator of strategic planning and director of the Pauahi Leadership Institute at The Kamehameha Schools. Kealoha is a retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general and past commander of the 15th Air Base Wing at Hickam Air Force Base. He serves on the board of regents at Chaminade University.
In a move to strengthen its relationship with businesses in Hawai'i and Asia, Hawai'i Pacific University has named CHARLES STEILEN dean of its College of Business Administration. Steilen held faculty and administrative positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before joining HPU recently as professor of marketing. Steilen was instrumental in development and expansion of the Chinese University's master of business administration programs and served as executive director of its Asia-Pacific Institute of Business. He is also a veteran in marketing and management consultation for multinational corporations, small-to-medium enterprises, as well as governments in Asia and Canada, and a past columnist for the South China Morning Post.
MARY HANSEN, director of human resources for tour and transportation company, Roberts Hawai'i, has been promoted to the senior management position of vice president human resources. The 10-year veteran of corporate human resource experience is recognized for knowledge of employment law, compliance and her development of the company's statewide "Healthier Me Wellness Program." Prior to joining Roberts in 1996, Hansen was regional human resources manager for Honolulu Recovery Venture-Ogden Project Co., parent company of H-Power, and has held senior management human resource positions with McKesson Wine & Spirits, City Mill and Gem of Hawai'i. Roberts' divisions include Ali'i Kai Catamarans, Captain Beans, Roberts Overnighters inter-island air-room-car packages, Roberts Hawai'i School Bus service, Regency Culinary Services and the Magic of Polynesia Waikiki magic show.
Tiki's Grill & Bar has promoted sales manager MICHAEL C. MILLER to director of sales and marketing for their existing Waikiki Beach Hotel location and a planned sister restaurant, Holokai Grill, opening later this year in the new Outrigger Enterprises Group's Waikiki Beach Walk redevelopment project. Miller has 18 years of experience in local hospitality, sales, marketing and public relations, 14 of those in the food and beverage industry. Prior to Tiki's, he served as manager of Maui's Gerard's at the Plantation Inn, and has also worked as Maui manager and state director of training for Haagen-Dazs Shops. The Maui High School graduate is a former University of Hawai'i student body vice president.
Hawaiian Airlines has announced two new senior directors:
ALISSA REITER has been named new director of Internet marketing, managing Hawaiian's Web site — www.HawaiianAirlines.com — including increasing business with online marketing, overseeing Web design upgrades and infrastructure improvements. The Internet marketing and product development veteran was previously a key senior level manager for Johnson & Johnson's Baby Center Web site for parents.
PILIALOHA WANG has been promoted to senior director of cargo sales and service, with oversight of day-to-day performance of Hawaiian's cargo operations systemwide. Since joining the company in 2005, Wang had served as Hawaiian's manager of cargo sales for the Hawai'i, Australia and Tahiti markets. The 21-year veteran of management experience in cargo and passenger sales has also worked with United and American airlines, and held an executive position with the Air Cargo Association of Hawai'i.
VAN MATSUSHIGE has joined Energy Industries as general manager of its western region, including company operations in Hawai'i and California, and its growing Asia market. Previously, Matsushige had served as chief operating officer for Executive Center Ltd., a Hong Kong-based firm.
