As of Monday, the number of local and Japanese runners registered for The Ho-nolulu Marathon is ahead of the 2005 race, the marathon announced yesterday.

There are 6,083 local runners signed up for the Dec. 10 race so far, which is nearly 500 more than this time last year (5,603), and more than registered for the race last year (6,016).

The number of Japanese entrants is also up, with 16,670 signed up through Monday, 665 more than this time last year. For the 2005 race, 17,435 Japanese runners registered.

Overall, 25,916 people have signed up for the race. In 2005, 28,043 signed up.

The registration fee for all runners is now $125.

Online registration will be accepted until Nov. 26 at www.honolulumarathon.org.

Entry forms are available at sporting goods stores throughout the state or at the Honolulu Marathon office at 3435 Wai'alae Ave., Suite 208. Late registration will be conducted at the Honolulu Marathon Expo in the Hawai'i Convention Center from Dec. 6 to 9.
