ANNAPOLIS, Md. — For Navy, it was one final opportunity to beat up on another team before the "biggest game of the year."

For Temple, it was a fitting end to a long and frustrating season.

Quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the decisive first half, and the Midshipmen rolled to their third straight lopsided victory yesterday, 42-6 over the woeful Owls.

Navy (8-3) amassed 298 yards of offense in building a 35-0 halftime lead. Kaheaku-Enhada a Kapolei High alum from Hawai'i, finished with 140 yards rushing and completed three passes for 35 yards, and Shun White ran for 114 yards and two scores on only seven carries.

Over the past three weeks, Navy has outscored Duke, Eastern Michigan and Temple by a combined 129-40 score. The Midshipmen will next face Army on Dec. 2 with a shot at four straight Commander-In-Chief's Trophy — awarded to the team with the best record in games between the major military academies.

"We had focus and intensity and got off to a great start," Navy coach Paul Johnson said. "We clearly lost focus in the third quarter there a little bit. That part was disappointing, but there were a lot of positives. Now we get ready for the biggest game of the year in two weeks."

Temple (1-11) closed its first season under coach Al Golden with three straight losses. Temple was outscored 496-131 this year, but its victory over Bowling Green last month enabled the struggling program to avoid a second straight winless season.

ATLANTIC COAST

Florida State 28, Western Michigan 20: Backup quarterback Xavier Lee tossed two touchdown passes to Greg Carr, Lawrence Timmons scored on a 22-yard interception return, and the Seminoles (6-5) beat the Broncos (7-4) at Tallahassee, Fla., to become bowl eligible.

Virginia 17, Miami 7: Jameel Sewell ran for two touchdowns and the Cavaliers (5-6, 4-3 ACC) defeated the Hurricanes (5-6, 2-5) at Charlottesville, Va., and will need a win at No. 19 Virginia Tech next weekend to qualify for a bowl game.

North Carolina 23, North Carolina State 9: Ronnie McGill rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown Saturday, and the Tar Heels (2-9, 1-6 ACC) forced three turnovers in the fourth quarter to hold off the Wolfpack (3-8, 2-6) and give fired coach John Bunting a win in his final home game at Chapel Hill, N.C.

BIG 12 CONFERENCE

Iowa State 21, Missouri 16: Iowa State running back Ryan Kock rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns and the Cyclones (4-8, 1-7) held the Tigers (7-4, 3-4) on a fourth-and-goal with 21 seconds left at Ames, Iowa.

Kansas 39, Kansas State 20: Jon Cornish rushed for 201 yards and the host Jayhawks (6-5, 3-4) took advantage of six turnovers — three fumbles and three interceptions — by Wildcats' (7-5, 4-4) quarterback Josh Freeman in a victory at Lawrence, Kan.

Texas Tech 30, Oklahoma State 24: Graham Harrell threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns, and the Red Raiders (7-5, 4-4) rallied from a 17-0 deficit by scoring on their next five possessions to beat the Cowboys (6-5, 3-4) at Lubbock, Texas.

BIG EAST CONFERENCE

Syracuse 20, Connecticut 14: Curtis Brinkley scored two touchdowns, including an 18-yard swing pass in the third quarter for a 17-7 lead as the Orange (4-7, 1-5 Big East) beat the Huskies in Syracuse to snap a 12-game Big East losing streak.

BIG TEN CONFERENCE

Minnesota 34, Iowa 24: Amir Pinnix carried 23 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and the Gophers (6-6, 3-5) forced five turnovers to beat the Hawkeyes (6-6, 2-6) in Minneapolis to take back the Floyd of Rosedale trophy.

Northwestern 27, Illinois 16: Tyrell Sutton ran for 110 yards and scored on a 2-yard run for a 24-16 lead in the third quarter as the host Wildcats (4-8, 2-6) closed their season with a victory over the Illini (2-10, 1-6) at Evanston, Ill., to avoid finishing last in the Big Ten.

CONFERENCE USA

Marshall 49, UTEP 21: Junior running back Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 261 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Thunder Herd (5-6) past the Miners (5-6) at Huntington, W.Va.

Houston 23, Memphis 20: Greg Jackson's 80-yard return of a blocked field goal with two minutes left tied it at 20 in regulation, and Ben Bell kicked a 17-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Cougars (9-3, 7-1) over the Tigers (1-10, 0-7) at Memphis, Tenn.

Rice 18, East Carolina 17: Clark Fangmeier kicked a 40-yard field goal with 3.1 seconds left to give the Owls (6-5, 5-2) over the Pirates (6-5, 5-3) at Houston.

Tulane 10, Central Florida 9: Lester Ricard threw a touchdown pass to Damarcus Davis and the the Green Wave (4-7, 2-5) raced to a 10-0 halftime lead, then held off the Golden Knights (3-8, 2-5) at New Orleans.

SMU 34, Tulsa 24: Justin Willis threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and the Mustangs (6-5, 4-3) scored 27 consecutive second-half points to erase a 17-point halftime deficit and beat the Golden Hurricanes (7-4, 4-3) in Dallas.

MOUNTAIN WEST

Utah 17, Air Force 14: Louie Sakoda's 37-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Ures (7-4, 5-2) over the Falcons (4-6, 3-3) at Air Force Academy, Colo.

TCU 52, San Diego State 0: Jeff Ballard was 20 of 22 passing for 288 yards and a school-record tying five touchdowns, and also and ran for another score as the Horned Frogs (8-2, 4-2) hammered the Aztecs (2-8, 2-4) at Fort Worth, Texas, for their fifth straight victory.

PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE

Arizona 37, Oregon 10: Chris Henry ran for 191 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a scoring pass as the the Wildcats (6-5, 4-4) handed the Ducks (7-4, 4-4) their first home loss of the season and became bowl eligible for the first time since 1998.

Washington 35, Washington State 32: Carl Bonnell threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns and Louis Rankin scored on a 77-yard run early in the fourth quarter to lead the Huskies (7-5, 3-6) over the Cougars (6-6, 4-5) in the Apple Cup at Pullman, Wash.

UCLA 24, Arizona State 12: Patrick Cowan threw two touchdown passes to Brandon Breazell — a 56-yarder and 35-yarder — and the Bruins (6-5, 4-4) sacked Sun Devils' (6-5, 3-5) quarterback Rudy Carpenter five times in their victory at Tempe, Ariz.

SOUTHEASTERN

Kentucky 42, Louisiana Monroe 40: Keenan Burton caught three touchdown passes and the Wildcats (7-4) stopped the Warhawks' (2-8) two-point conversion try with less than a minute to play at Lexington, Ky., to clinch their first winning season since 2002.

South Carolina 52, Middle Tennessee 7: Blake Mitchell passed for a career-high 388 yards and four touchdowns and the Gamecocks (6-5) became bowl-eligible for the second straight year under Steve Spurrier with a rout of the Blue Raiders (7-4) at Columbia, S.C.

ELSEWHERE

Yale 34, Harvard 13: Mike McLeod ran for 87 yards and three touchdowns to help the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-1) beat the Crimson (7-3, 4-3) at Boston and earn a share of the Ivy League title with Princeton, which defeated Dartmouth, 27-17, later in the day.

Princeton 27, Dartmouth 17: Jeff Terrell threw for 257 yards and a touchdown to lead the Tigers (9-1, 6-1) past the Big Green (2-8, 2-5) at Princeton, N.J., to earn a share of the Ivy League title.
