The Venerable Khandro Rinpoche, a renowned Tibetan Buddhist teacher, makes her first visit to Honolulu on Thursday. She'll be giving several lectures on "A Mahayana Course: The Path of the Bodhisattva" at Kagyu Thegchen Ling, Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center through Oct. 15.
The lectures are based on the classic Tibetan text which gives the key instructions for training in compassion: "The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva," written by 13th century Tibetan master, Ngulchu Thogme.
Khandro Rinpoche was born in India in 1967, daughter of Mindrolling Trichen of the Nyingma lineage, oldest of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. She is a lineage holder of both the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, having been recognized by the 16th Karmapa as the incarnation of the female Kagyu master, the Great Dakini of Tsurphu, Khandro Urgyen Tsomo. She has taught throughout Europe, North America and Southeast Asia and established the Samten Tse Retreat Centre in India for nuns as well as western practitioners.
